Ride Faster Gift Guide
Frank Overton
Happy Holidays FasCats! At FasCat we are always thinking of ways to help you ride faster and we'd like to present our holiday Ride Faster Gift Guide. Scroll down for our "Top 10 Reason to Ask Santa for a Powermeter" tip as well. The list below is not long because these are products we've vetted, that 'work' to help you ride faster or recovery more OR live better. We'll break our ride faster guide up into 5 essential performance categories + a bonus (hint coffee):
1) Training Plans & Coaching
2) Recovery
3) Nutrition
4) Powermeters
5) Coffee!
1. TrainingNo surprise that #1 on our list is to invest in your engine - you the athlete is what makes the bike go the fastest. Watts. We have training solutions for a variety of price ranges starting at $49 for a six week training plan on up $174/month to hire a coach. Either way - following an expert plan nets you the most improvement. We are talking on the order of 20+ watts which is 1,000 greater than the improvement gain from a $3,000 carbon wheelset.
2. Recovery
Aside from getting 8+ hours of sleep each night (which is free) there are two recovery items we love:
#1 The Whoop is like a powermeter for your recovery and we've podcasted with them before. Are you red, yellow or 'in the green' ? This wearable device will help you understand how your lifestyle impacts your recovery and change you can make to improve your recovery scores and consequently train better.
#2 HyperIce's "space legs". Formerly NormaTec, the space legs are like getting a massage from the convenience of your home and couch. They are expensive but pay for themselves in roughly sixteen $75 massages. Put these on your legs, turn on the peristaltic pump for 30-60 minutes, sit back and recover. The normatecs squeeze your legs from the ankles up to flush your lymphatic system and muscles.
3. Nutrition
We are huge fans of "Winning in the Kitchen" which is our expression for making healthy food choices to fuel your training and lose weight. We have two meal plans that work just like your training plan to tell you what to eat for all three meals and snacks every day for 4 weeks. We have an intro plan that teaches you the winning in the kitchen concepts and recipes and the advanced Weight Loss plan that tells you how many calories to consume in the recipes to lose weight scientifically.
Two other items we highly suggest to help you win in the kitchen even more are a killer set of Tupperware for food storage and bomb rice cooker.
We recommend our friends at GuEnergy Labs for your on the bike nutrition and hydration. Use the code FasCat20 for 20% off your online order.
4. Powermeter
A powermeter is like a bathroom scale: it won't help you lose weight but it will certainly tell you if you are! Our entire coaching and training philosophy centers around power-based training so if you are ready to dive into sport science based training, click the Stages powermeters logo below to take 20% off as our gift to you this holiday season. Use FASCAT20 for a 20% discount
If you need ten more reasons why you should buy a powermeter read our top ten here.
5. Liquid Cheetah from The CoffeeRide
Coffee makes the pedals go 'round, and our friend Josh at Coffee Ride is a coffee roaster that makes some of the best coffee out there. He will ship orders, but, even better, if you are local to the area around Boulder, Colorado, he will pedal his bike to your house for a special delivery!
